FAQs

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

  1. FEASIBILITY STUDY – I will carry out an office-based pre-site survey / safety assessment to assess risk and legalities – these can include locations of possible hazards in the area (i.e., schools, public areas, is the proposed site in controlled airspace or near an aerodrome or in a no-fly zone).
  2. NO OBLIGATION QUOTATION – If I am satisfied on safety, I will then provide you with a full quotation – usually based on the example pricing, with any additional costs itemised if appropriate.
  3. AGREE A DATE – If you are happy then I will confirm a mutually convenient date. This date will be weather dependent as drones cannot fly in high winds or precipitation. I will keep regular contact and re-arrange a date ASAP where necessary.
  4. CONDUCT THE JOB – I will arrive on site at the appointed time, and complete an on-site survey. As long as I am satisfied that all safety conditions are met I will then conduct the job and you can even watch the process and view the photographic results as I work.

HOW HIGH CAN YOU FLY?

UK CAA guidelines stipulate a maximum altitude of 400ft (121m). Higher altitudes can be achieved however this requires additional planning time and prior approval.

HOW FAR CAN YOU FLY?

Up to 500m away from where the pilot is standing, although visual line of sight must be maintained at all times.

CAN YOU FLY AT EVENTS?

Yes, as a general rule I’ll need to stay 50m away from uninvolved people (people who haven’t been briefed or are aware of the drone flight). This can be a 50m ‘bubble’ over their heads if the risk assessment allows. If it is a larger crowd then this safety distance increases to 150m. However, If all people are involved (i.e. fully briefed) then technically there are no restrictions, safety allowing of course.

WHERE CAN YOU FLY?

My licence permits me to operate UK wide however I must obtain landowner permission for the takeoff and landing site, there are also restricted airspace considerations which may prohibit flight or require additional permissions (near airports or overflight of prisons, hospitals, schools, etc)

CAN YOU FLY IN THE RAIN?

Unfortunately drones cannot fly in the rain, this is due to exposed electric points on the drone and water on the lens will ruin the shot. I will be flexible to find a suitable day.

CAN YOU FLY AT NIGHT?

Yes. A day time site survey is required by the pilot in order to complete the flight.

CAN YOU OPERATE ABROAD?

This is possible with additional local permissions to that country.

WHAT IS THE WIND LIMIT?

For the best results I recommend flying in wind under 15mph, however my drones are capable of wind speeds up to 24mph.
